Cook ingredients that you are used to cooking by other techniques, such as fish, chicken, or hamburgers. In other words be comfortable with the ingredients you are using.

My apologies, Blogger the blog host for this blog has been down for the past twelve hours or more. During that time period you may or may not have been able to access this blog and if you could access the blog at times it was not possible to leave comments. Regular posting will resume as soon as the problems are resolved and the Blogger platform becomes stable again. In the meantime, your's truly is busy gathering lots of great foodie things to talk about in the upcoming posts. Oh my gosh, I think you are going to like a few of the foodie finds! I know I certainly enjoyed finding them to share with you so watch for those posts coming shortly.
My apologies for a late post today. Back in early January I began the "How It's Made" series of posts to run on each Sunday. While I like these posts and could easily continue, I have decided to take a different direction. As you know this is a Canadian blog that does promote Canadian food products whenever possible. I would like to focus on Canadian farmers and producers with a goal of sharing pictures, videos and perhaps interviews from Canadian farmers and producers each Sunday. It is only right that as a Canadian I show my support for our local farmers and producers. I find it absolutely amazing that we seriously could eat only foods grown and produced within a 100 mile radius of out home thanks to the wonderful farmers and food producers in our area. The tentative name for the new series is "Canadian Made" but that may change. The first in the new series will be posted on April 24, 2011 which is officially Easter Sunday. I hope you enjoy the new series :)
You have likely noticed a bit of tweaking of this blog's elements today. A lot of the tweaks have been behind the scenes and a few are noticeable, both necessary. I've tried to get the first blog post above the fold as one reader suggested but even with the tweaking it just won't work. There is still a slight scroll to get to the first post however I feel the welcome and canning messages are necessary and need to be where readers can easily see them. I'm really liking the toned done effect I'm getting with pink still on the blog but less prominent. I hope you like the effect. You will notice I changed the blog post and sidebar backgrounds to shades of grey in keeping with the the layout design. So that took a lot of pink away. The pale grey should give a nice background for the food pictures while making it a bit easier to read than a white background.
Please stay tuned for today's food related post.
I apologize for not keeping you updated on the new blog changes and thank-you for your patience. By now you have likely noticed all the tinkering I was doing yesterday. A couple of months ago I stumbled upon The Cutest Blog on the Block. I loved the scrolling design for the background so changed this blog to a pink and black polk-a-dot from them. In the meantime I set about making my own designs for all of my blogs. I just love PhotoShop®! The design for the cooking blog took a little longer and I'm will be doing a bit of tinkering yet.
The colour theme for this blog has been shades of pink from it's inception inspired by colour scheme of the kitchen in our old house. The pink has become a trademark so I wanted to keep the pink but tone it down a bit from the temporary pink and black. The wooden cafe building is a picture of an actual kitchen decoration from our old kitchen. It was one of the first images I learned to remove backgrounds on. I hope you like the new background and header. I had a lot of fun making both. There will still be a few changes coming over the next couple of days but they should be minor.

while I do a little Christmas decorating.
Update 2: So far things are going not bad but a bit slower than I anticipated. There is still a bit of tweaking to do tonight and in the morning but the overall effect is pretty much as what I was working towards. Stay tuned for the morning update.
Dear Readers: The ghosts and gremlins are still at it so you will be seeing a lot of things going on today during the testing phase. Hopefully you bare with me as I change things multiple times for a whole new look but don't worry as the recipes and pictures you are used to will remain the same. As you can see the changes will be involving the background, header and sidebars along with a surprize or two. I will post another update this afternoon then by this evening things should be back to normal with more good food coming from our kitchen.
Enjoy!
Ghosts and
gremlins are running amuck at
Mom's Cafe today so you will be seeing a few weird things going on. Your eyes are not playing tricks on you! Don't worry as soon things will be back to normal with a few fresh new additions and a few stale deletions. A few
tricks & treats here and there should soon put things right with a little help from the
gnomes. Meanwhile I'm in the kitchen cooking up a few goodies that you can't hand out for Hallowe'en anymore like popcorn balls, candy apples, homemade fudge and homemade cookies. Oldest grandbaby might learn how to bob for apples tomorrow. I know it is a day late but what the heck.
Have a safe and happy Hallowe'en!
I have had a space for rent on my blog through BlogExplosion. Everytime I try to accept an offer, I get an error message "An error occured while trying to accept the offer. Please try again." I want everyone to know I'm not snubbing them and I have notified BlogExplosion of the problem

I'll be making several changes today as you have already noticed. Sorry for the inconvenience. Sometime throughout the day I will post the Maple Glazed Salmon I made for dinner last night.

Hi everyone! Please excuse the changes as I do a little updating on my blog. It's official! The offer for the new house has been accepted and ours is up for sale privately pending two offers until 9 am Monday when it is officially listed through the real estate. As long as the chain reaction isn't broken we are moving the end of May. As you know, my current kitchen is pink and that was reflected in my old blog template. Since I have no idea what the new kitchen, providing all goes well, will be I have changed templates for the transition.
I'll be updating with our Easter feast. Tomorrow we visit one side who despite the snow and cold weather today are still planning on grilling. Our family get together is Saturday. Sunday our new grandbaby will be baptized so that should be a busy day.
